Find a place to Sleep Out that is safe and legal. It can be anywhere: a yard, garage, porch, terrace, or floor are all great options. The important piece is thinking about what comforts you will give up for the night. Your bed, of course, but also consider going without a pillow or blanket, comfy pajamas, or your usual nighttime rituals.
Remember, Sleep Out is about much more than an uncomfortable night’s sleep. Your planning toolkit will include activity ideas, videos, and stories that you can incorporate into your night to give it added meaning and make you a better advocate for youth overcoming homelessness. If you’re with a group, consider giving out creative fundraising awards to recognize people who went above and beyond.
As you settle in for the night, be sure to snap a couple photos and tag them on social media with #chsleepout so we can wish you well. And when you wake up, take time to reflect on the experience and how it differs from what youth facing homelessness experience. If you’re with a group, share out loud together and then share your thoughts on social media so your donors and followers can hear, too.
Our team would love to hear from you, too, with photos and reflections on your Sleep Out. Reach out to us at sleepout@covneanthouse.org.
