I am giving up my bed for one night.

The Sleep Out helps ensure that youth facing homelessness can sleep safely and dream big at Covenant House.

Covenant House is more than just a shelter. Young people are welcomed with unconditional love and provided warm meals, education opportunities, job training, medical care, mental health and substance use counseling, and legal aid — essential services designed to help them build independent futures.

In the spring, I travelled to Honduras with Covenant House Central America.   I was astounded & so impressed by the local staff - they are heroes in my opinion. It was evident through observing everyday interactions - the daily work they conducted alongside youth was done with mutual respect, trust, care, and gentle gestures of kindness. These youth have lived horrific and unimaginable trauma, a complexity I couldn't touch coming in with a global north, privileged perspective.  We had an intense yet deeply informative seven days visiting safe houses, engaging in street outreach, visiting youth detention centers, all while being schooled on the country's political history, controlling drug cartels, and deeply corrupt government. The problems and system are complex - migratory routes, gangs, and types of support necessary to be effective. For over 40 years, Covenant House has been caring for children in Latin America who are overcoming homelessness, survivors of human trafficking, and unaccompanied migrant youth.  I'm sleeping out for the homeless youth in the America's.
