Sleep Out: Stage & Screen

I'm Sleeping Out

I have accepted Covenant House’s challenge to spend a night sleeping on the street so homeless kids don’t have to.

The Sleep Out is not about pretending to be homeless. It’s an act of solidarity with the 4.2 million young people who experience homelessness each year. It’s a decision that we can’t stay indoors while so many kids remain outside.

One night can make a difference.

As part of my Sleep Out, I am raising funds and awareness for Covenant House, a shelter for homeless and trafficked youth. Covenant House offers these young people so much more than a safe place to sleep - they welcome each kid with absolute respect and unconditional love, and their continuum of care provides essential services to help kids transition from homelessness to independence.

About Me

Darius de Haas is proud to serve on the board of Covenant House International where he strives to make a difference for all young people who have found themselves homeless. The extraordinary young people he has gotten to work with have made it clear that homelessness is the least interesting thing about them.

As an actor, he made his Broadway debut in Kiss of the Spiderwoman, followed by Lincoln Center's revival of Carousel, the original cast of Rent, The Gershwins’ Fascinating Rhythm, Marie Christine, Shuffle Along,  and the concert/live recordings  of Dreamgirls and Hair. Notable Off-Broadway, regional, touring and premiere credits include his Obie winning leading performance in Running Man (Music-Theater Group), Cain in Children of Eden (Papermill Playhouse), Saturn Returns (Public Theater), The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin (Playwrights Horizons), Once On This Island (1st National Tour), the John Adams opera I Was Looking At The Ceiling and Then I Saw the Sky, Jesus Christ Superstar- Gospel (Alliance Theater), The Wiz (MUNY), and  As You Like It (Public Works/ The Delacorte).

Recent TV includes the role of Paul on Dietland (AMC)

Among the many venues he has performed in concert include The Lincoln Center Songbook, Carnegie Hall, Disney Concert Hall as well as symphony orchestras throughout the US.

He is featured on many original cast recordings, as well as his solo efforts Day Dream: Variations on Strayhorn and Quiet Please. He will be a featured soloist on the upcoming release, Ice On The Hudson.
