Important COVID-19 Sleep Out Update

To ensure everyone’s safety during the COVID-19 Pandemic, we have decided to host our Sleep Out as a virtual event. While we had originally hoped to move the event from spring to early summer to allow us to host events at their originally planned locations, we have determined that for everyone’s safety it would be best to hold this event online. With experience, we are getting quite good at hosting virtual events. We will send out a link for you to join us live for an engaging program via your computer or smartphone. Then you sleep inside your home, backyard, or porch! Fundraising all remains the same and is more important now than ever. We ask you to please join us as together we will make it possible to continue caring for our very courageous young people.

Why Asbury Park?

In March of 2012, Covenant House New Jersey began offering Outreach Services to homeless and at-risk youth in Asbury Park and the surrounding areas.  Wherever we go, we begin with the basics.  We reach out to young people who are suffering on the street. We start with a van, snacks, water, blankets, and unconditional love.  Our outreach workers go out into the community making relationships with young people in crisis and offer them guidance, support and shelter if needed. If you know of a youth in need of our services, please contact our outreach team.

In February of 2018, Covenant House New Jersey opened its first Residential Program in Monmouth County. Rights of Passage, Asbury Park is a beautiful new home provided by Interfaith Neighbors. The Rights of Passage building allows 5 local homeless youth the opportunity to stay close to home instead of being sent to shelters in Atlantic City or Newark. It is located on Prospect Avenue and it offers men ages 18-22 a temporary home as they transition out of homelessness. This beautiful home features 5 bedrooms, a communal living room, a kitchen, secured storage, and bicycle racks. The program has serviced 9 young men who were able to have a stable living environment while they attended school, work, saved their money and some who have finally moved into their own apartment. In November of 2019, a second ROP opened, providing a home to 5 young women offering them the same services!

You can make a big difference for homeless kids.

Sign up to Sleep Out with us! Fundraise for Covenant House to keep the lights on and the doors open for kids in need. Then, spend an evening getting to know some of the young people whose lives will be better because of your efforts on their behalf - and spend the rest of the night sleeping on the street in their place.
