Sleep Out Schedule

Safety is our highest priority, both for the young people we serve and supporters at our events, and we take every necessary precaution to keep you safe. In 11 years of Sleep Out, we have never had an incident with safety. 

Our outdoor space is guarded by security and Covenant House staff will be present at all times. Only registered Sleepers will be permitted to attend the Sleep Out.

Your packing list should include: 

• A sleeping bag
• Your overnight travel bag (limit one per person) 
• Layers of clothing
• Personal medications (as needed) 
• Basic toiletries (optional) 

 

You should not bring: 

• Alcohol. Sleep Out is always a dry event and alcohol is strictly prohibited. Also, we must insist that you refrain from having alcoholic beverages before arriving at the Sleep Out. Many of our residents and alumni have struggled with substance use and are hyper-aware of the odors of alcohol; for their safety and security, please take great care. 
• Outside food and drink. Please plan to eat before you arrive as we will not be serving dinner.
• Pillows, airbeds, or other luxury bedding items (a yoga mat or sleeping pad is ok).
• Unnecessary valuables. While we do provide staffed storage areas, we recommend you limit the number of valuables (electronics, jewelry, money, etc.) for your peace of mind...and ours. 

 

We will provide for you: 

• Light snacks and breakfast 
• Bottled water and/or a water bottle filling station
• Secure storage for your belongings, available to you at all times 
• Restroom facilities (indoors) 

 

Please email Vera Hannush at [email protected] if it is the week of Sleep Out and you have not received an updated packing list. 

Sleep Out is a rain or shine event. Young people on the street don't always have a place to seek refuge until they find Covenant House. During the Sleep Out, the same goes for you. As long as it is safe to be outdoors, we encourage you to remain there, however you may leave at any time. Indoor space will not be available overnight and covered space will be limited, so please check the weather forecast and plan appropriately.
