Sleep Out Schedule

The Sleep Out program begins at 8pm ET and continue throughout the night! Review the schedule below and tune in when you can. The program will broadcast live, so times may vary slightly.

Friday, March 19th

Connect with Your Local Covenant House
(Alaska, New York, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Missouri, Michigan, and Texas) 

Start your Sleep Out with an interactive session with your local Covenant House staff. Hear updates from the ground and connect with your local Cov Community. 

9:00pm ET

Welcome to Your Virtual Sleep Out! 

Our Sleep Out opening ceremony celebrates the thousands of people who have given up their beds over the last ten years so that young people can sleep safely at Covenant House, and sets the tone for our night. Covenant House International President and CEO Kevin Ryan will be joined by a former Covenant House resident to give an update on the state of our Houses.

9:20pm ET

Outreach at Covenant House

Not every young person experiencing homelessness has access to the internet or knows how to access safe shelter. So we go to them. Armed with warm blankets, free sandwiches and information about Covenant House, our street outreach teams are often the critical first step in connecting homeless youth with assistance. See what members of our outreach teams from across North America are seeing on the streets every day.

Interactive Breakout Sessions

Time to turn your camera and mic on! 

These interactive breakout sessions are your chance to actively participate in conversations or activities with other Sleep Out participants, as well as Covenant House front-line staff and alumni.

Each breakout session will focus on a different topic or activity, and will encourage meaningful conversations. 

Choose from: LGBTQ+ Programs, Anti-Human Trafficking (for ages 13+), Mental Health and Wellness, Advocacy: How to Help in Your Community, and Losing Your Sense of Self: Post-It Activity

Returners are invited to join an hour long discussion on what we've learned over the past two years in our Two Pandemics One Year Later: COVID-19 and Racial Injustice breakout session.

Hear directly from a former resident of Casa Alianza in Honduras.

"Midnight" Reflections

Sleep Out is an experience. The testimonies shared throughout the night are emotional and the stats can be staggering. Join a reflection room to continue talking, ask about something you heard earlier in the night, or debrief on the experience so far. There will be special rooms for Young Professional participants, Women + Families, and an open room that anyone can join. 

Video and/or phone connection is required to actively participate in the reflection conversations.

Join local Covenant House staff from California for an interactive session and updates from the local Cov Community.

Reflections: Part 2

Participants will have an opportunity to continue to reflect on the evening's experience.

Video and/or phone connection is required to actively participate in the reflection conversations.

Overnight 

Not quite ready or able to go to sleep? No problem. You will find self-guided activity ideas, reading materials, and videos in the Resource Center. Pick and choose as many as you like, but don't forget to at least attempt to sleep for a portion of the night.

Morning Reflection #1

Before starting your weekend, join us in the morning to reflect on your Sleep Out experience and hear stories submitted by Sleep Out participants throughout the night.

A second opportunity to join us for a morning reflection and share about your night without a bed.
