Who can attend?
We are so excited to welcome our Sleep Out community back to New York City on March 25, 2022. For many of us, this will be our first time gathering in person since before the pandemic and we cannot wait to return.
To join this event, each Sleeper must:
- Be at least 21 years old
- Work towards a fundraising goal of at least $1,000
- Provide proof of vaccination and comply with COVID-19 safety guidelines
- Approach the experience with an open heart, an open mind, and a willingness to work hard for something outside of your comfort zone
If you have questions or concerns about any of these expectations, let us know! We're happy to talk with you and find the best way for you to support our young people.
Is this event virtual or in-person?
We are excited to welcome our community back to Sleep Out in-person on March 25th, 2022, at the Javits Center in New York City!
We will be hosting an indoor program that starts at 8:30pm (find a complete schedule here). The outdoor portion of the Sleep Out will begin by 11pm and continue through the morning.
At this time, youth currently living at Covenant House are not permitted to attend in-person fundraising events like Sleep Out out of an abundance of caution for COVID-19. However, their voices remain integral to the spirit of Sleep Out and their stories will be shared virtually (live, via recorded video, or written). Vaccinated adult alumni of Covenant House may be in attendance, as will the front-line staff who have provide direct care to young people 24/7.
We are not currently offering virtual participation for this Sleep Out. If you are interested in attending a virtual Sleep Out or other event this spring, contact our team.
Will I be safe?
Safety is our highest priority, both for the young people we serve and supporters at our events, and we take every necessary precaution to keep you safe.
Only registered Sleepers will be permitted to attend the Sleep Out, and all participants must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Sleepers will be asked to wear a mask while indoors or when conversing with others.
Our outdoor space will be guarded by the Javits Center security team and Covenant House staff will be present at all times. Sleep Out is a rain or shine event, but the outdoor space is covered and offers some protection in the event of rain or snow.
Both Covenant House and the Javits Center will follow city, state, and national guidelines with regard to COVID-19 and will update policies as needed. Read our full COVID-19 policy or contact our event team with any questions.
Why do I have to fundraise? And how much do I need to raise?
Sleep Out is a unique experience that we hope encourages awareness, empathy, and understanding for the immeasurable odds that homeless young people overcome. But while awareness of a problem is important, it isn’t a solution.
By fundraising, Sleepers can become part of the solution for youth overcoming homelessness. Every dollar raised goes directly to Covenant House, so we can offer safety, shelter, and loving care to young people 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Learn more.
For this event, we ask that each Sleeper work towards a fundraising goal of $1,000 or more.
If you're worried about fundraising, our team is here to help! You will be connected with a personal fundraising coach, have access to sample messages and shareable content, and receive a step-by-step guide for getting started. If you're willing to try, we know you can do it. Take a look through our fundraising tools.
